Upgrade Required
If your Futorum watch face shows futorum.com/upd — Upgrade required, it means this watch face is using the old Futorum weather service.
This message does not mean that your watch face is broken. It means that the legacy weather backend used by older Futorum watch faces is being replaced.
Why is this happening?
Many older Futorum watch faces were designed as standalone products. They worked without a phone companion app and received weather data directly from the Futorum weather service.
Some of these watch faces were created many years ago for older Wear OS versions, the old Android Wear / Wearable API ecosystem, or Samsung Tizen devices.
Maintaining the old weather API service now requires ongoing server and weather provider costs, while these old standalone watch faces are no longer actively sold as current products. Because of this, the legacy weather service will be discontinued after a transition period.
What is replacing it?
The new product is Weather Plus Watch Faces — a modern Android and Wear OS app from Futorum.
Weather Plus Watch Faces uses a new app-based system instead of the old standalone watch face weather backend.
It includes:
- Android phone app
- Wear OS app
- Current weather and forecasts
- Sun and moon data
- Location and elevation tools
- Sensor and environment data
- Wear OS tiles
- Watch face complications
- Android widgets
- Weather-focused Wear OS watch faces
Can I upgrade?
If you use a Wear OS 6 or newer watch
You can install Weather Plus Watch Faces from Google Play and use the new Android + Wear OS weather system.
After installing the app, open it on your phone, complete the setup, and install supported Wear OS watch faces from the catalog.
If you use an older Wear OS / Android Wear watch
Your old Futorum watch face may still show time and non-weather elements, but the old weather data service will be discontinued.
Weather Plus Watch Faces is designed for modern Wear OS devices and may not be compatible with older Wear OS versions.
If you use a Samsung Tizen / Gear watch
Tizen watch faces are part of the old Samsung watch platform. Weather Plus Watch Faces is an Android and Wear OS product and does not support Tizen devices.
Your Tizen watch face may continue to work as a watch face, but the old Futorum weather service will be discontinued after the transition period.
What should I do now?
If your device supports Wear OS 6 or newer, please move to Weather Plus Watch Faces. This is the current Futorum weather product for Android and Wear OS.
If your device is too old to run Weather Plus, you may continue using your existing watch face without the legacy weather data, where supported by the watch face.
We understand that some users bought Futorum watch faces many years ago and still use them today. Thank you for that. This transition is required because the old weather backend can no longer be maintained indefinitely.
